Shaytan (The Devil): Part one

As Salam alekum wa rehmatuillah wa barkatahu!

(May peace, blessings, and mercy of Allah (swt) be on all of you)

When we are about to do something bad, we hear a little voice telling us “Yeah let’s just do it, this is my first time I will do it once; later, I will ask Allah (swt) for forgiveness, what’s the big deal?” That little voice is nothing but Shaytan who has challenged Allah (swt) that he will misguide every human being. As we can see in our daily lives, how shaytan has set his plot. For example, when we go to a grocery store, we hear music playing and now when we call someone on their cell phone, we hear music called “caller tunes” instead of a ring. No one realized that it is shaytan who is distracting us from doing Allah (swt) Zikr. In addition, when we read newspapers and watch T.V in there we will see most of the ads which aren’t appropriate where they show a half covered girl standing in front of the material which they are selling. Seriously! What does a half covered girl has to do with a car or a men’s wrist watch? And when we see or hear something like that we as Muslims must lower our gaze and say Astakfirullah! (May Allah forgive us) and carry on with our work as said in Surah An-Nur chapter 24 verse 30 and 31 “[30] Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do. [31] And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty.”

Few hijabi girls sometimes think that when we get ready to go to their college or go out for some grocery shopping, we feel like not wearing our hijab in a proper way and sometimes we say to ourselves “I look pail, should I put some make up on?” and “we think of loosening up our hijab because if we wear it tight, we might look fat or ugly and nobody will notice us.” Jilbab is to cover ourselves not to showoff so men can look at us. However, there are few muslimahs’ who wear colorful jilbabs or designer jilbabs like the Burberry Abaya (jilbab). Have we ever thought why is Khanne Kaba covered with black material? This is because Allah (swt) is behind the veils  as well as a woman. When we get inappropriate thoughts say Astakfirulla. As soon as we say Astakfirullah! All the whispering from Shaytan will be gone and we start to feel better the way we are. As we Muslims know that Shaytan will never leave us alone, he has created so many ways to distract us. He will try something or the other to divert our minds from our Deen (Islamic Teachings), but he will never give up.

Allah (swt) has accepted Shaytan’s challenge because Allah (swt) knows that we Muslims will not easily follow shaytan, but through Shaytan Allah (swt) is taking our test. Therefore, my brothers and sisters don’t fall into Shaytan’s trap that he has set for us. It is definite that Shaytan is going to hell fire, but don’t let him take us with him, he is already in lost don’t let him take over us. As said in Surah An-Nisaa chapter 4 verse 119 to 121 “[119] “I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah.” Whoever, forsaking Allah, takes Satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest. [120] Satan makes them promises, and creates in them false desires; but Satan’s promises are nothing but deception. [121] They (his dupes) will have their dwelling in Hell, and from it they will find no way of escape.”

I am sure when we were young; we at least had one fight with our siblings. My mother used to tell me when we fight Shaytan actually claps his hands and enjoy the fight like we enjoy the bull fights. Why should we amuse shaytan? Instead, by not listening to his whisperings we can make him suffer and get him angry. In addition, Allah (swt) has given us, even when we don’t say Allhamdullilah! We sometimes miss our prayers, even then He provides us with all the goods. There are so many things that we should be thankful to Allah (swt). For example, for breathing, for being able to see, hear, feel, smell, and Allah (swt) has provided us with those things that we aren’t even aware off as said in chapter 2 verse 28 to 29 “[28] How can ye reject the faith in Allah? Seeing that ye were without life, and He gave you life; then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life; and again to Him will ye return. [29] It is He Who hath created for you all things that are on earth; then He turned to the heaven and made them into seven firmaments. And of all things He hath perfect knowledge.” The more we do for Allah (swt) is how less it is. Furthermore, do not let Shaytan be successful in his goals. Allah (swt) has given us higher position than the Angels. We may ask how? It is because Angels doesn’t have any distractions like we do. As a result, Allah (swt) loves when we leave whatever we are doing and offer Salah.

Walaikum salam brother Ahmed, First of all, let me congratulate you because Al hamdulillah if the bad thoughts are coming in your mind while praying (or) in general that means shaytan is working really hard on you which also means that you are coming closer to Allah (swt) which Shaytan doesnt like…I encourage you to read Astag firuallah and other wizifas all the time. Listen to Quraan and read it loudly if you can.

May Allah (swt) help all of us to defeat Shaytan and come much closer to Almighty God – Amen
